Miss Alexandria 2011
Miss Alexandria 2011 is Delesia Amanda Watson, a 21-year-old junior at George Mason University pursuing a degree in Communication, concentrating in Public Relations.. She was crowned at the 2011 Miss Alexandria competition held on Saturday, January 29, 2011, at the Hilton Alexandria Old Town.
Delesia is the daughter of D.D. and Roberta Watson of Louisa County, and she graduated from Louisa County High School in May 2008 with an advanced diploma. Throughout high school, she was Varsity Co-Captain of the cheerleading squad, a member of the varsity soccer team, Sports Editor of the yearbook, staff writer for the newspaper, and a member of the musical theater ensemble and advanced theater.
She will represent Alexandria in June at the Miss Virginia scholarship competition, an official preliminary to Miss America. Singing since age 3, Delesia will perform a rendition of “Almost There” from Disney’s The Princess and the Frog.
As a Communication major, Delesia recognizes the impact great communication skills can offer a young person. Thus, she champions the platform, “Communication 101: Creating Lasting Impressions.” Delesia believes social networking sites have created an environment for creative communication for individuals and corporations alike, but have simultaneously begun to undermine basic communication skills. At Mason, she has had the opportunity to serve in leadership capacities as a Patriot Leader and mentor with Akoma Circle, both of which came with opportunities to demonstrate and advocate for proper communication. As Miss Alexandria, she will use her message of creating lasting impressions through proper communication to reach out to as many elementary, middle, high school and college students as she can through the Boys and Girls Club..
Miss Alexandria will make appearances at local schools, businesses, Boys and Girls club chapters and other community service organizations, as well as raise money and advocate for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, the official charity of the Miss America Organization.
